The Bamsey Family’s Story
We started training with Corry because our own individual efforts over the years never quite worked out. Doing things individually was our approach in the past as it is for most couples, but then we realized that we needed to approach this as a team effort, just like marriage – we were going to do this together, for better or worse. We both played competitive sports while we grew up through high school, and we had continued playing various sports recreationally. However, that doesn’t mean anything to staying in shape.

It was this past January 2006 when my husband and I started training with Corry. I had always exercised and was fairly fit up until a few years ago. I had a miscarriage in 2003 and again in 2004. I had gained weight with both of those pregnancies and couldn’t seem to lose it. I had tried training with another trainer and it helped initially but once the training sessions ended, so did my motivation to get in shape.
My husband hadn’t been interested in exercising in the conventional way before. He always played sports but didn’t have the desire to go to the gym – he’d rather lose weight playing a team sport. He was now interested in cycling and wanted to get better, but to get better he needed to strengthen his core. So I took him to an Abs & Back class at the Gold’s, and he liked it.
He approached me in December 2005 after he had heard about a trainer at the gym that was apparently the best around, she just happened to be the instructor and founder for the Abs & Back class. He wanted to train with her as a couple. I said yes immediately, it was something we could do together.
Corry took great time to analyze our nutrition as well as ask us what our goals were in losing weight & becoming fit. When training with Corry, she explained that the focus should be on losing body fat and building muscle not focusing on the weight loss or the scale. It took time for me to adjust my thinking but the results speak for themselves. In six months I lost 11 pounds and went from 24% total body fat to 17% body fat. I’ve never felt better.
Corry also teaches a weekly Body Step and her original Abs & Back class 3 days per week. The abs was both of our weakest muscle group so with Corry’s encouragement we attended those classes and I lost 7 inches from my waist. My husband had even better results. Corry is always available to us to answer our questions.
